Project description
A unique solution for distinct wines
In the EU, origin wines are Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) products. Efficient production of distinct wines is a challenge because the unique aromas of the wine are owed to the role of indigenous microorganisms during the vinification process. However, acquirement of such microorganisms is problematic since their growth needs specific bioreactors and nutrients that are not available or they do not fulfil the desired requirements. The EU-funded ECOBIOMASS project is a unique solution in the market, which uses selected indigenous microorganisms to produce personalised wines. The solution offers a selection of the best indigenous microorganisms, installation of specific bioreactors that are superior to those existing in the market and nutrients supply. The project will introduce the solution in Europe and South America.
Objective
Nowadays, it is very difficult for Designation of Origin wineries to achieve efficient production processes for unique wines. This is because to yield unique aromas in a wine, indigenous microorganisms must be used, and the growth scale up of these microorganisms needs specific bioreactors and nutrients which currently are either not available for wine sector, or they do not accomplish the desired requirements of automation, sensitivity and price.
LEV2050 has developed ECO-BIOMASS, the only solution in the market to efficiently produce personalized wines using selected indigenous microorganisms. It includes selection of optimal indigenous microorganisms, specific bioreactors installation in customer facilities and nutrients supply. ECO-BIOMASS main innovation is the superiority of their patented bioreactors over those in the market, in terms of automation, traceability and price.
The objective is the introduction in the wine production reference markets in Europe (Spain, France, Italy and Portugal). The commercialisation plan in these markets will produce a prescription effect over the rest of producer countries, including USA, making them ready for further stages of the commercialisation plan of LEV2050.
