A rational approach for reduction of motion sickness & improvement of passenger comfort & safety in sea transportation

Objectif

While high-tech ships are built for leisure or transportation the motion sickness standards are based on the studies which are 25-30 years old. Although, technologically, ships are capable of operating in severe weather conditions they are forced to cease their operations for almost half of the year or operate well below their capabilities due to the passenger safety and comfort point of view. The main objective of the compass project is to develop a new motion sickness prediction model and realistic standards for Motion Sickness and Passenger Comfort dedicated to sea-transportation with an ultimate technological aim of improving the safety of passenger and crew, reliability and operability efficiency and competitiveness of passenger and cruise vessels built /operated by the European shipping industry.
