Fifth framework programme of the European Community for research, technological development and demonstration activities (1998 to 2002)

The Fifth Framework Programme established the priorities for the European Union's research, technological development, and demonstration (RTD) activities from 1998 to 2002. It aimed to enhance industrial competitiveness and improve the quality of life for European citizens. FP5 was divided into the European Community (EC) framework programme and the Euratom framework programme. Unlike its predecessors, FP5 focused on a limited number of research areas to maximize impact, streamline management procedures, and involve key players in research.
