Objectif
The information, health & social care needs of older people with disabling conditions often differ from those perceived by professionals. Consequently they go unmet. A full understanding of the nature & personal implications of disabling illness empowers individual sufferers to optimise management & maximise independence & quality of life. This project will conduct empirical research to ascertain the personal views & experiences of 500 older people & their lay carers, all with differing physical, mental & social disabilities, cultural, social & economic backgrounds & compare them with the perceptions of 700 professionals in 7 European countries. In addition the views & experiences of an 'expert round table' of users, professionals & voluntary bodies from across Europe, together with an extensive literature review, will all be used to create a critical mass of knowledge to enable recommendations for policy & service provision & the development of comprehensive educational materials for sufferers, carers & interprofessional education. To ensure that more appropriate standards of support. Services & care are available for older disabled people.
