Development of recombinant bcg multivaccines and complementary diagnostics for predominant parasitic and epizootic diseases of ruminants in latin america

Objectif

Infectious diseases are a major burden on agriculture in developing counties. Current vaccines are expensive and often ineffective. We aim to develop a live recombinant BCG (brig) multivaccine that protects against predominant ruminant parasitic diseases in Latin America. Vector/host system will be developed to deliver parasite antigens to the bovine immune system. Immunogenicity will be measured in mice and protective efficacy measured in cattle. The brig vaccine will be developed in a strain deleted for dominant antigens. In parallel, animmunodiagnostic will be developed that targets deleted antigens and thereby distinguishes brig vaccination from natural Mycobacterium bovid infection. A rBCG vaccine and compatible TB diagnostic will promote affordable control of ruminant disease in developing counties. The vaccine should be cheap, heat-stable and effective via a single inoculation, and thereby promote sustainable development.
