Advanced materials and manufacturing technologies for photocatalytically active surfaces

Objective

Semiconductor photocatalytic films open up a variety of "green" technologies with important new applications, e.g. auto-cleaning surfaces, elimination of organic contaminants, anti-bacterial properties, purification of air, photovoltaics, rain shedding - leading to the improvement of quality of life, health and safety. SCP materials and processes have potential to be a major new emerging exploitation technology however, to date, wide application has been hindered by the lack of materials and coating technologies. This proposal targets achieving SPC materials with a higher activity, functionality, durability and sensitivity -plus innovative large volume coating technologies, including nano-technologies. Three application demonstrators will prove their wide potential. The 14 participants from 6 countries will develop the first significant European industrial application of SCP technology in a wide range of industries.
