Electromagnetic forming of tube and sheet metal for automotive parts (EMF)

Objective

This project intends to develop electromagnetic forming (EMF) for full-scale industrial application both from tube and sheet material. The overall aim is to reduce the weight of the vehicles to support the reduction CO2 emissions. As EMF is most suitable for aluminium this will be the focus in the project. The project will start from the investigation and optimisation of process parameters and the determination of material behaviour during EMF. Through the utilisation of laboratory tools representing specific features of parts input will be provided for the realisation of two industrial demonstrators displaying the advantages of EMF.
Experimental and virtual procedures are considered as well as process parameters and EMF equipment. The link between experimental work and simulation is important for the project in order to develop EMF towards an industrial application, fitting modern production strategies.
