ENVISAT data will be utilized to develop, validate and bring into operational use multisensor and multi emporal snow parameter retrieval algorithms applicable both for regional and global mapping . The products shall fulfil the hydrology users requirements for operational products. We will improve the understanding of microwaves and light interaction with snow and ground cover, and develop new and improved algorithms utilizing the complementary characteristics of optic and radar sensors. The main parameters are snow cover area snow water equivalent, snow wetness, Aledo and snow surface temperature. Signature data, data and models will be further developed in the retrieval algorithms and combined withairborne, spaceborne in-situ data. The resulting EO products will be included in updated hydrological modes for improved run-off prediction accuracy. Validation and demonstration of the results will be performed in various regions in Europe.
