Un sistema de modelización de las emisiones del tráfico rodado en entornos urbanos
En los últimos años, ha habido una creciente preocupación por el medio ambiente que ha generado que una gran cantidad de sectores se lancen a la investigación y el desarrollo de nuevas formas de evitar el colapso ecológico y mejorar la sostenibilidad. El sector relativo al tráfico rodado en ciudades, donde las emisiones producen efectos graves sobre la salud de los ciudadanos y el medio ambiente, tiene una enorme importancia. Las nuevas tecnologías emergentes en el transporte ya están aquí y el cambio en el paradigma de movilidad urbana ha comenzado. Esto brinda una oportunidad única para desarrollar las herramientas innovadoras necesarias para combatir la contaminación atmosférica de las ciudades. Con esto en mente, el proyecto financiado con fondos europeos IRTEMS desarrollará un sistema de modelización instantánea y de alta resolución de las emisiones del tráfico rodado que se puede aplicar a escala urbana. Los resultados de la investigación se divulgarán a diferentes públicos objetivo y serán accesibles para publicaciones científicas.
Objetivo
IRTEMS aims at developing an instantaneous road traffic emission modelling system for its application at city scale. The final result is a useful and thorough tool to provide accurate city-wide emission results considering European traffic conditions. It will be developed by means of the implementation of an instantaneous traffic emission modelling system with high resolution at city scale. This tool will help to give knowledge-based answers for measures to be implement for a good air quality in the European Union cities taking into account gender dimension and ethical aspects in all steps of the project. For the purpose of the project a 2-year stay in the USA with experts on measuring and modelling emissions is proposed with a 1-year returning phase to an emission and air quality modelling reference group in Europe, located in Madrid. Collaborations with enterprises of the transport sector and other research organizations with expertise on instantaneous traffic emission models are contemplated through the research program. This aspect reinforce the strong inter/multidisciplinary of the project to develop a powerful tool and to provide solutions involving different aspects to generate an important impact on society. On the other hand this ambitious project is a career opportunity that will help to generate new research lines and reinforce an independent position of the researcher through the scientific training activities and complementary skills developed during the action. All the research results and knowledge generated during the project will be openly accessible by scientific publications and several dissemination activities for different target audiences. This will help to involve different sectors on the research activities from the EU, increasing the interest of a wider part of the society. In this case, by contributing to a better air quality in accordance with the targets of the European climate action plan through the analysis of air traffic emissions.
