Multipurpose barrier stops unauthorised vehicles
Vehicles are being used as weapons of terror as evidenced in a series of attacks in 2016 in Barcelona, Berlin and Nice. This recent spate in vehicular terrorist attacks has put mounting pressure on authorities to prevent similar attempts in the future. Both public and private sectors are now seeking new efficient products that can provide security. The EU-funded ALICE project has developed a unique product designed especially for this purpose. It is a passive barrier that restricts entry to unknown and unauthorised vehicles in public or private spaces while maintaining its open and public character. ALICE is an innovative tool designed to safeguard ‘soft targets’ and can be applied in many areas and different forms.

The increasing number of vehicle attacks in Europe and North America has led to an unprecedented demand for new security products for public and private sector.
A.L.I.C.E. is the first-ever product of this kind: it's a passive barrier specifically designed to restrict entry of unauthorized vehicles into specific facility areas preserving their open and public nature. This disruptive innovation is a tool able to protect “soft targets”, that can be integrated in urban architecture as a design object with multiple functions (plant pot/bicycle stands) reducing psychological and sociological impact related to artificial barrier.
