Periodic Reporting for period 1 - CoP1stRespond (Secured Collaboration Platform for Law Enforcement and First Responders)
Período documentado: 2019-08-01 hasta 2020-01-31
Emergency response is an inherently dangerous job with workers facing a wide range of serious hazards daily. The inherent risks and dangers in emergency response set it apart from most other professions and these risks have become more perilous in recent years with terrorist attacks. Emergency response units reply on quick and adequate access and exchange of accurate context-related information to ensure the public and their safety. The quality of the information is often vital as it can help teams resolve problems safely and efficiently. All security forces are facing the following same three challenges when dealing in emergency situations and scenarios: 1) reliable (and secured) communication (intra-team); 2) effective collaboration (inter-team); 3) visibility of personnel (especially inside buildings). These challenges affect Military & Defence; Law Enforcement; First Responders; and Private Security (Executive Protection, Campus Security, and Guarded Communities).
Why is it important to society?
Both police and fire fighters have emphasised that there are fundamental problems with the radio communication systems they currently use that extend beyond tactical problems .
The advancements in current communication technology have opened a door for new systems to be realised that previously were but a dream. Smart phones have progressed technology to be a multifaceted tool – phone, camera, email, video, location device, etc. – available to all.
In the USA, FirstNet deploys, operates and maintains a high-speed, nationwide wireless broadband network dedicated to public safety. It is anticipated that FirestNet wireless coverage will reach more than 99% of Americans by 2020. Europe should not lag behind and GlobeKeeper system can be a feasible alternative to such a public safety network.
The fifth-generation (5G) of mobile internet connectivity has arrived which promises a much faster data upload and download speeds with wider coverage and a more stable connection. It also means a much better radio spectrum and enables more and more devices to access the mobile internet simultaneously. So 5G in a nutshell = greater speed (to move more data), lower latency (be more responsive) and the ability to connect more devices at once (for sensors and other smart devices).
All the mainstream technologies needed to run and support GlobeKeeper’s advanced technological system at its best are now at a level to meet the requirements of the product. Technology has finally caught up with the GlobeKeeper product!
Additionally, Governments recognise the need for investment and more than $10 billion has been allocated and budgeted for infrastructure for Public Safety in 2017 – 2020.
What are the objectives?
As this is a feasibility study, the major objectives will be to carry out Primary Market Research, Technical Feasibility Study and Business Planning.
