Periodic Reporting for period 1 - DIY4U (Open Innovation Digital Platform and Fablabs for Collaborative Design and Production of personalised/customised FMCG)

The main objective of DIY4U is to develop and promote the adoption of collaborative production engineering approaches (Open Innovation B2B/B2C digital platform and fablabs) in the FMCG sector. This will spur the rapid production and commercialisation of new/innovative personalised or customised soft matter FMCG for the benefit of consumers.
DIY4U digital platform has been designed to be openly accessible (via registration) with a user-friendly user interface that can be navigated by a non-technical consumer. This interface is currently undergoing internal testing by consortium members and colleagues outside of the original development team in order to give feedback on the further development.
Extended functionalities as microservices to carry out a specific task in the DIY4U platform are being developed. A significant progress has been made.
The design and functional specification of the platform, including the use of DLT has been developed.
Initial design the FabLab is available.
4 companies have been declared as the winners of first open innovation competition (OIC). These companies are currently developing additional digital functionalities to enhance and extend the existing platform, supporting the innovative nature of the DIY4U approach.
The project is actively participating in dissemination activities through writing articles (scientific and popular science), participation in various dissemination events, joining events with sister projects, publishing content on social media etc.
• Product customisation/personalisation is quite new in the FMCG sector, especially in detergent and soap market. DIY4U project has been able to analyse the relevant market sector thoroughly and three new business models have been defined accordingly to ensure sustainable marketing strategy for the newly developed products.
• Blockchain technology has been effectively used to enhance data sharing and transparency, and to track liability and ownership of collaborative design and manufacturing eco-systems through the DIY4U digital platform.
• Soft-matter modelling and simulations (DEM, CFD) technologies have been developed enhancing effectiveness of customised FMCG products through response surface method.
• Miniaturised PAT tools for quality assurance of FMCG products developed during the first half of the project can be highlighted as well.
• The project team has presented and discussed the ideas of co-creation and customer-driven collaborative production enhancing SME participation in the process during couple webinars, online congress, etc., making a good societal impact.
