Epidemiological methods for establishing exposure-response

Protocol on statistical analysis and examples (using samples of our data) to demonstrate protocol feasibility. As a part of the validation and wrt to the testing of novel features in our approach (such as the exposure-response functions for interactions) the report will also include sensitivity analyses to test the how specific parameters affect the performance. Output of T2.2.

Economic impacts of CPD in demographic groups and in health services

Report on new empirical evidence on the relationship between CPD outcomes and economic consequences that can be applied in economic modelling approaches. The focus of the empirical analyses will be on estimating impacts on CPD on labour supply and on health care utilization and health care costs, by use of micro data from a set of countries. Knowledge gaps will be identified. Output of T5.2.

Climate and air pollution projections over Europe

Report on 1) downscaled simulations of the CMIP6 climate projections to high spatial and temporal resolution over Europe using the WRF meteorological model; 2) high-resolution simulations of current and future air pollution over Europe using CTMs; and 3) extracted health-relevant metrics for co-occurring extreme temperatures and high air pollution events. Output T3.4 (with support from T3.3)

Summary report of health impact projections

Summary report of projections of future excess mortality and morbidity in Europe under alternative climate change scenarios (including air pollution co-benefits), and analysis of differences across geographical areas and population sub-groups. The report also includes estimates of potential health benefits associated with adaptation pathways defined in the T4.2. Output of T4.2, T4.3 and T4.4.

Report on calculate costs related to population exposure, health impacts and associated external costs attributable to temperature and air pollution (for CPD mortality and morbidity), and benefits from future adaptation (bottom-up assessment). Output of T5.1.

Social and economic consequences of CPD under alternative socioeconomic scenarios

Report on projected social and economic consequences of changes in the CPD burdens under alternative projections for European countries. The projections provide a reference for evaluations of alternative long-term adaptation strategies. The projections will refer to the socioeconomic pathways underlying the climate projections, and will be based on output both from the EVA and the GRACE models. The projections will show impacts of climate change with attention to the health effects and related adaptation options on main economic indicators by sector and on unemployment rates over the coming decades. Output of T5.3 and T5.4.

Data visualisation

Appealing data visualisations based on the estimates of the socio-economic impacts related to health risks under alternative climate change scenarios, including global 1.5°C and 2°C scenarios. These will be stand-alone, high-quality communication products that will also feed into the AR6 WG1, and that are intended both for scientific and non-scientific audiences. It has not yet been assessed if an interactive tool or platform will be an efficient solution. We await results from end-user insights to inform of the best solution. An interactive tool remains a potential option.Output of T6.4

Stakeholder meetings

The project will invite identified policy stakeholders on local and national levels in selected EU and EEA member states to stakeholder meetings. Members of the European Parliament and policy officers in the European Commission will be invited to these stakeholder meetings. Exhaustion will use the Advisory Board to aggregate more interest, multiply the network contact and to reach more relevant high-level representatives to the EU-level stakeholder meeting. Invitees to EU-level stakeholder meeting are selected based on relevant knowledge and opportunity to maximise impact through dissemination and exploitation of project outputs. Partners will be responsible for carrying out additional stakeholder meetings in their respective countries where they will recruit from new and existing networks.Output of T6.4

Interactive tool

The interactive tool will be released in a newly-developed website and designed with a user-friendly interface. The tool will allow the user to select the type of results (impacts, risks), geographical area of interest and format (figures, maps, tables). It will include instructions of use, a tutorial with examples and a user-survey. As part of the implementation process of the tool, it will be initially released to a limited number of users to test its proper functioning. Output of T4.5.

Final version Citizen engagement tool, including user survey: To establish the final version, user feedback will be taken into account. The specific modifications of the tool will emerge from the user requirements analysis. In addition, an internal evaluation within the EXHAUSTION team will be taken into account. Thus, D6.4 will describe the first version of the tool that will be offered to EFA, Quercus and the general public for pilot use, whereas from M36 we will continuously receive feedback from actual users via an issue tracking and prioritization tool and will modify/ optimize the tool, a final version of which will be available by the end of the project. Through the citizens engagement tool, citizens will be able to a) get convenient access to easy-to-understand information on episodes of extreme heat and/or air pollution; b) get automated alerts, triggered when a parameter exceeds limit values, for the specific user profile; c) receive customized information on everyday activities such as traveling, commuting and sports activities, based on their location. d) report their perception on extreme heat / air quality on specific locations. Regarding the security of the platform, we apply security best practices, ensuring that users’ personal information are not accessible by third parties.Outcome of T6.7
