We will developed and evaluate a toolkit that combines self ratings and intelligent techniques to help identify difficulties in online mental health support communities, track shifts in mood and recommend appropriate next steps from four levels of stepped care: self-help (e.g. online resources); phone service (e.g. helplines); community/voluntary support; or a relevant medical service. A report on the evaluation end-user engagement and the of design/evaluation of research probes will be delivered.
Annual report on training and secondments (x4)We will deliver annual reports describing overall training activities and specific activities by each ESR. Details of secondment will also be included. Reports will be delivered in months 12, 24, 36, and 42.
Large-scale technology-enabled resilience programmes guidelinesWe will deliver detailed guidelines for the design of large-scale technology enabled resilience programmes. The guidelines will be based on community engagement activities in school and community groups and will be co-produced with representatives of these groups.
Validated smartphone module as biomarker of mental disorderPrior research by has shown that automatically generated smartphone data are valid electronic markers of early depression and upcoming mania in adult patients with bipolar disorder. Smartphone-based diagnosis has not been validated with younger people. We will investigate key biomarkers in automatically generated smartphone data on social activity, physical activity and voice features to help discriminate young people with depression and bipolar disorder from healthy young people. We will design and evaluate a smartphone based biomarker for young people with mental health issues and integrate it with smartphone based cognitive behavioural therapy application. Results of the initial trial of the new system will be reported.
Reminders and emotional support app for the ABI user groupWe will develop an mobile app to help with prospective memory, reminders to remember, emotional support and crucially user interfaces suitable for young people with acquired brain injuries. We will deliver detailed findings and guidelines for supporting emotional wellbeing in complex co-morbid conditions.
Prototype inclusive toolkitWe will design and prototype an inclusive toolkit to deliver prevention programmes. It will be inclusive in the sense that is can be adapted to personal and cultural factors (e.g. gender, ethnicity) and take account of language ability. The toolkit will be field tested with culturally diverse Austrian migrant youth and the report on this field test will be delivered.
Personalization frameworkPersuasive technology is an interdisciplinary research field focusing on how interactive technologies can stimulate a positive change in behaviour or reinforce a healthy lifestyle However intervention technologies are typically static and designed in a generic way with little regard for individual personal traits gender habits and interests which may be one of the key reasons why such technologies tend to fail to sustain user engagement longterm53 We will go beyond generic intervention designs by combining user modelling with personalization techniques to enable automatic adaptation of interfaces in a mobile persuasive system We will deliver a framework and report on two pilot evaluations of the framework and associated software
Open-access data platform for behavioural monitoringWe will design a platform for open-access data collection, sharing, and visual analytics of behavioural data collected from wearable and mobile sensors. Ultimately this platform will allow researchers to share clinically collected behavioural data and run standardized analytics on it, enabling researchers to find patterns in mental disorders across a large number of patients, and also supporting rigorous replication. A report on the open access platform will be delivered.
Report on social media presenceAlongside a project website we will develop a social media presence. A report on our strategy and social media presence will be delivered in month 8.
Service users rights protocolWe will develop a framework and protocol that help to ensure that service users rights are considered at all stages of technology-enabled YMH interventions.

Framework and design implications for technology developmentWe will deliver a framework and set of design implications for technology development to support resilience in high risk groups, with a specific focus on unaccompanied migrant youth. It will consider how technologies can be used to deliver (and, if needed, re-interpret) existing evidence-based strategies around resilience and positive coping strategies for this high-risk user group.
PhD thesesThe TEAM ITN will provide training for 15 ESRs. We will provide copies of all PhD theses produced by ESRs.
Policy guidelines for technology-enabled parental involvementWe will design and develop a prototype called Power-Up for Parents that hat also enables greater involvement of mothers and fathers (or caregivers) in their child’s therapy. Based on the evaluation of this prototype we will deliver detailed policy guidelines for technology-enabled parental involvement in decision-making in youth mental health.
Software application for automated assessment of anxiety and attachmentWe will develop and evaluate a software application for the assessment of anxiety and attachment in an automated way. Develop algorithms for basic processing and mapping of the physiological signals into the multimodal interface to convey physiological information related with anxiety and attachment. A final report will be delivered comparing the results to a standard to assess effectiveness and accuracy, e.g. via the MCAST, a standardised methods for the assessment of attachment.
Auto-aggressive and suicidal behaviour are an increasing public health problem worldwide. We will design a proof-of-concept digital program to reduce auto-aggressive behaviour and report on the pilot evaluation of this program in school and community settings.
List of patentsWe will deliver a full list of all the patents applied for based on research by the network.
Mindfulness-based CBT games, mobile apps and online servicesWorking in collaboration with national psychology services in Ireland we will evaluate a computer game and mobile app the can support mindfulness-based cognitive behavioural therapy in school aged children. A report on the large-scale evaluation of this new technology will be delivered.

Project web site, repository and blogWe will create a project website, repository and blog, which will be used throughout the project. They will be online by month 8.
Program manager in placeThe TEAM partners have committed to jointly funding a professional program manager (PM) for TEAM who will support future collaborative project proposals emanating from the network to ensure network sustainability and long-term ESR opportunities. S/he will support the TEAM program of research and training, in particular by preparing reports for REA, assisting beneficiaries and partners with their financial reporting, collecting and distributing important information to all partners, and contributing to the organisation of network meetings and network-wide training events.
Data Management PlanWe will deliver the data management plan for the TEAM ITN.
Adaptable games and gamification toolkitWe will design and develop an adaptive platform the supports the creation of therapeutic computer games for adolescent mental health. The platform will be adaptable to a range of theoretical intervention models (e.g. CBT, Solution Focused, Mindfulness-based or Narrative therapies) and disorders (e.g. anxiety, depression, obsessive compulsive disorder, psychological trauma).
Computer and Smartphone-based Assessment of Cognitive Functioning in Affective DisordersContemporary neuropsychological tests are typically paper and demand meticulous collocated supervision of psychiatrists, which is a time consuming and complicated procedure which only provides a limited assessment of cognitive functioning in a clinical setting. Prior research has shown that smartphones can be used to self-assess , automatically monitor , and predict mental health in adult patients. These results are quite promising. However, most of this research is based on studying behavioral – and not cognitive – features. This project will provide an integrated monitoring and treatment platform for unsupervised and non-clinical assessment of cognitive functioning of young mentally ill patients using a computer- and smartphone-based platform.
