Final Synthesis Report linking economic drivers and scenariosThis synthesis report aims at identifying the most likely scenario for Turkey-EU relations for 2023 from an economic perspective based on the key drivers identified in the analysis. It will trace, therefore, the development of Turkey’s role in politically hegemonic discourses within the European context, e.g. since ‘9/11’, as well as the concomitant rise to political hegemony of a nationalist discourse in this respect.
Paper on energy and climate security priorities and challenges in the changing global energy orderThis paper will analyse how the changing global energy order is expected to impact EU and Turkish energy interests and priorities, such as the changes introduced by the unconventional revolution, the OPEC crisis and the decisions adopted in the framework of the UNCFCCC are among the issues at stake.
Paper on economic relations with third countries: institutional and political requirements for TTIP and the EACU and the impacts on EU-Turkey relationsIncluding political economy developments in the analysis of the WP, this paper will assess the impacts of growth and crisis in the European and Turkish economies on the economic convergence/divergence between the two. In particular, TTIP and the Eurasian Customs Union (EACU) and the institutional and political requirements for each of these options will be analysed. The implications for future EU-Turkey relations of Turkey and the EU engaging in these trade relations with third countries will also be analysed in light of the conflict, cooperation and convergence scenarios.

Compilation of EU 28 Country Reports on national debatesThe EU 28 country reports will be produced by academic experts from the Member States. Aware of the fact that Turkish membership is a highly contested issue in the individual EU Member States, differences within the EU will be reflected in the reports, giving an in-depth assessment of the evolution of the national debates. This deliverable forms part of a WP in co-leadership of UzK and IAI.
Paper on the impact of political changes in the Arab neighbours and Eastern EuropeThis paper will discuss the impact of systemic political changes in the neighbourhood on EU-Turkey relations, such as the colour revolutions, or the Arab upheavals.
Final questionnaire translation in Turkish and English and pre-testing reportThis deliverable forms part of the elite survey, conducted to assess the challenges and opportunities stemming from the three scenarios and in particular the empirically most likely scenario, and to begin delineating policy recommendations for the EU and Turkey. It will provide a questionnaire translation as well as a pre-testing report. This deliverable forms part of a WP in co-leadership of IAI and EDAM.
Paper on narratives in EU and TurkeyThis paper will present results of the narrative analysis and address the following questions: (1) Do the narratives change over time and how? Paper identifying the drivers that impact on irregular transit migration between EU and TurkeyThis paper will focus on the drivers that are and will continue to shape EU-Turkish relations in the management of irregular (transit) migration, factoring in border control policies, visa policies, the legal and institutional framework as well as the foreign policy level, as well as the influence of global actors in the management of irregular migration. Particular attention will be paid to the bilateral cooperation between Greece and Turkey

The research will focus on focal issues, identified in the extant literature as having played a critical role in shaping identity/cultural representations both in Europe and in Turkey.
Paper on EU and Turkish energy interests in the Caspian and Middle East regionThis paper will investigate EU and Turkey’s energy relations with countries of the Caspian and Middle East region and their impact on EU and Turkish energy security, including the question of Turkey’s potential role as a hub.
Survey Fieldwork ReportThis deliverable will comprise the results of the elite survey. Researchers summarise the contents of the interviews and information generated from them in a series of top line data reports and key findings reports, guaranteeing the comparability of results. This deliverable forms part of a WP in co-leadership of IAI and EDAM.
Synthesis Paper of most likely scenario across all thematic dimensionsOn the basis of a synthesis carried out both across all focal issues within each thematic area, as well as between the six thematic areas, the paper will select and empirically flesh out the most plausible scenarios for 2023, highlighting the possible/plausible future drivers that may influence/determine their realisation. This deliverable forms part of a WP in co-leadership of IAI and EDAM.
Paper on the evolution of EU and Turkey's security interests, threat perceptions and discourseThis paper discusses how Turkey’s security interests have developed since 1999, what role the EU has played, and vice versa. As one important aspect it will take into consideration the influence of NATO on the EU-Turkey security relationship.
Launch of Online Papers of FEUTURE PhD WorkshopsThe academic exchange among the younger generation of researchers will be fostered through PhD Workshops in Cologne and Istanbul. Working Paper: Mapping milestones and periods of past EU-Turkey relationsThis Working Paper will give an overview of the focal issues in EU-Turkey relations relevant from a historical perspective, mapping milestones and periods of the last decades, taking into consideration the effects of shifts at the regional and global levels. Paper on regional (and global) perspectives on culture and identity in the EU-Turkey relationshipThis paper will examine the regional (and global) level, particularly the views of the Eastern and Southern neighbours on the identity/cultural dimension of Turkey-Europe relations (since 1999).
Start of Policy RecommendationsThrough the elite survey and expert workshop, the WP will also extrapolate policy recommendations aimed at Turkish and EU actors, starting in month 26. The recommendations will target different timeframes and address various levels of EU policy-making as well as Turkish authorities. This deliverable forms part of a WP in co-leadership of IAI and EDAM.
Launch of Report on FEUTURE Policy Challenge Sessions and FEUTURE LecturesFEUTURE targets the academic community e.g. with FEUTURE Lectures as well as the stakeholder and practitioner community with Policy Challenge Sessions, starting in Month 18. FEUTURE Lectures are organised at the participating institutional partners of higher education that invite a senior expert from the consortium to provide insights on EU-Turkey relations. FEUTURE Policy Challenge Sessions will take place in countries where the institutional partners are based, bringing together key stakeholders, to be challenged by leading in-dependent experts on EU-Turkey relations in order to debate research finding and hot topics of EU-Turkey relations. Paper identifying the drivers that impact on skilled migration in the EU-Turkey relationshipThis paper analyses the movement not only of Turkish skilled labour migrants to the EU but also of EU labour migrants to Turkey. It identifies direct drivers in EU and Turkey such as the institutional framework, political actors and policies, economic factors and trends, foreign policy, social factors as well as indirect drivers at the neighbourhood and global level.
Background Paper on the three scenarios and conditions for their realisationThis Background Paper will elaborate on the three ideal type scenarios for EU-Turkey relations within the mid-term perspective of 2023. The scenarios are specified in terms of the six thematic dimensions (politics, economics, energy, migration, security, identity) as well as four levels of analysis (the EU, Turkey, the neighbourhood and the global level). This deliverable forms part of a WP in co-leadership of UzK and IAI.
One of the project’s main communications tools is its website (www.feuture.eu), launched in month 2. The internal part of the website will facilitate internal communication and management. The website will function as science-policy-interface including knowledge- and advice-section. This deliverable forms part of a WP in co-leadership of CIFE and TEPSA.
Launch of FEUTURE VideosStarting in month 3, the project will produce short videos. Authors of online papers will summarise their findings within short videos called “FEUTURE Papers in 60 seconds”. Another category of videos are the so-called “FEUTURE plain-talking” videos in which experts will address precise questions and hot topics of EU-Turkey relations. This deliverable forms part of a WP in co-leadership of CIFE and TEPSA.
Launch of FEUTURE NewsFEUTURE news will be launched in month 2. The project’s approach to disseminating the latest news is twofold. A quarterly project newsletter will be published. This will be complemented by a so-called FEUTURE News-Ticker that makes possible the dissemination of ad hoc news and events and reaction to ongoing and highly topical events. This deliverable forms part of a WP in co-leadership of CIFE and TEPSA.
