Final Report Summary - Mobi3Con (Developing Mobile 3D Data Collection, Processing and Dissemination Solution for Construction SME-s)
The project concluded with a lab prototype of an ultra wide band (UWB) navigation system and powerful 3D navigation and task management software. The software solution was validated in construction site in cooperation with project partner TRV-Kliima.
Project context and objectives:
The project's main goal was to find a solution to improve the efficiency of construction process through innovative information and communication technologies (ICT) solutions. The MOBI3CON project was aiming to solve the issues by:
- providing a rugged and robust handheld for construction use;
- data management at the construction site with 3D operation capabilities (3D drawings on site);
- reduce design deviations in construction small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and to reduce number of reworks;
- support the growth of construction industry SMEs through the developed solutions.
Project results:
The biggest value through the project foreground for the SME-AG's was the increased knowledge how to transfer the construction processes into ICT systems. Scientific value added was through the knowledge of the UWB properties on the construction site and the navigation calculations with UWB signal.
Potential impact:
The consortium is continuing the software development through new projects at BBRI and in the SME partners own product development. Partners have started future projects and this has allowed them to begin entering to the new markets on construction sector. The SME-AG partners are continuing to promote ICT usage in the construction sector and they have now bigger confidence on understanding of the fundamentals of the ICT implementation and the challenges new technologies will bring.
