Combating Chronic Inflammatory Diseases: EU Project SYSCID Releases Animated Clip

Around ten percent of the European population suffer from chronic inflammatory diseases (CID) such as Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis or rheumatoid arthritis. As it is often difficult to quickly diagnose and treat this particularly complex group of diseases, the international research project SYSCID aims to develop a systems medicine approach for predictions in CID.

Entering the second half of the project, the Horizon 2020 project has now released an animated clip illustrating the project scope and its possible impact for non-professionals, patients and relatives. The clip is available on the SYSCID project website (http://syscid.eu/) and on YouTube (https://youtu.be/WlSanbRhHy0). Since the project launch in 2017, the fifteen interdisciplinary project partners from four European countries have collaborated to create a prediction framework for disease outcome to guide therapy decisions on an individual patient level enabling the choice of the right therapy at the right time. Furthermore, the SYSCID consortium targets new therapy approaches by "reprogramming" disease through epigenome editing.
