Pollution and the young combined analyses of cross-sectional studies of respiratory health of children and air pollution

Objetivo

Uncertainties remain about the impacts of air pollution on the young. By bringing together a large number of comparable data, which have already been collected, this study offers a cost-effective route to improved assessments of the effects of long term impacts of air pollution. This study will assemble data from 12 countries, a combined study size of over 60,000 children from 140 areas. The health and exposure data will be subject to careful quality control checks and thematic-level statistical analyses conducted to provide estimates of the effects of PM10, SO2 and NO2, independently and jointly, on respiratory symptoms and on pulmonary function. Risk modification by significant emission source type, interaction with socio-economic status, and with indicators of atop will be assessed as well as the relative contributions of indoor and outdoor air.
