Models of organising access to intensive care for very preterm births : a study of 10 european regional health systems (MOSAIC)

Objetivo

Access to intensive care for very prefers infants are vital for their survival and future quality of life. These births account for most deaths and cases of severe handicap resulting from the prenatal period. The challenge for health professionals is to provide this 1-1.5% of total births with the best-organised access to specialised care. This project uses the diversity in the organisation of prenatal care in Europe to
(1) identify organisational models that promote access to specialised care for pregnant women at risk of very prefer birth and their new-borns;
(2) evaluate the impact of these organisational models on the health of very prefer new-borns and
(3) determine resource use and user constraints in distinct models. A research consortium will define a common protocol and implement
(1) a cohort study of very prefer births and
(2) a surveyor health units in 10 health systems with diverse models of organisation.
