A non-destructive pulse neutron multiple detector tool for use in environmental, hydrocarbon and mineral exploration work

Objective

An innovative pulse neutron logging device with multiple detectors for simultaneous registration of fast, thermal and epithermal neutrons, as well as gamma radiation will be developed to prototype and tested in the market. Both the 14 KeV neutron source, and LiI, p-terphenyl single crystal detectors are new. The device marks a major breakthrough in miniaturised detectors, which can simultaneously register a range of elements (e.g. Fe, Cu, Zn, Au, As, Se, Ni, Cr etc.) as well as organic compounds such as hydrocarbons and pesticides. No comparable device is available anywhere in the world. The device has application in oil and gas exploration, mineral exploration and environmental studies (site assessment), as well as material science studies, defectoscopy, medical science, and detection of explosives and narcotics. The market is estimated at more than 100 M € annually.
