Project description
New software solution for internet-based services
Internet service providers (ISPs) are under pressure to handle continuously increasing Internet data consumption and faster speed requirements. New software is needed to seamlessly and efficiently combine the ISPs’ existing and complementary access technologies (4G/5G mobile internet, Wi-Fi hotspots and community Wi-Fi) to better deliver current and emerging Internet-based services. The EU-funded MPA project is developing the first fully standardised end-to-end solution (smartphone app and network function) to offer higher speed, reliability and on-the-move consistency by enabling smartphones to simultaneously combine Wi-Fi and 4G/5G networks. The Multipath App (MPA) will be introduced in Europe and in other regions from 2021. The MPA solution will be sold through software licences, maintenance software and professional services.
Objective
In spite of the expected annual growth rate (47%) of Internet data consumption and speed requirements, Internet Service Providers (ISPs) are suffering from the continuous erosion of traditional services revenues (voice & messaging) due to a) the fierce competition between them and b) the irruption of Over-The-Top applications (Skype, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, etc.). To cope with the growing demand while increasing revenues, ISPs will have to leverage currently deployed infrastructures as much as possible, monetising the Internet consume data.
Tessares has developed the Multipath App (MPA), an innovative software which is able to combine all the ISP’s existing access technology investments (4G/5G mobile Internet, WiFi hot-spots and Community WiFi) to better deliver current and emerging internet-based services. The MPA is the first downloadable app to offer higher speed, reliability and on-the-move consistency by enabling smartphones to simultaneously combine WiFi and 4G/5G networks.
ISPs are Tessares´ primary target market. Tessares has commercial agreements already with several ISPs that have shown interest in the MPA approach. Moreover, Tessares is in discussion with other ISPs worldwide to establish future commercial agreements. The MPA solution will be sold through software licences, maintenance software and professional services.
There are two key aspects that define the entry market strategy of Tessares: 1) Detecting the early adopters, and 2) Speed to market. Based on these aspects and the high scalability of the MPA, the product will be introduced in Europe in 2021 (right after the end of the project), in Asia, North America and Australia in 2022, and in other markets in 2023.
The MPA represents a real innovation for the Internet Service Providers´ needs, being capable to create 10 new direct jobs during the project and generating over €144M of revenues during the period 2021-2025. Moreover, another 30 employees will be hired during the same period.
