This report will summarize details of past experiments for magnetic shielding and radio blackout mitigation performed by different groups worldwide and in most cases involving permanent magnets or normal conducting coils to generate magnetic fields The potential for improvements particularly by using superconducting magnets to provide higher magnetic fields will be shown as well as different requirements for ground and flight experiments
Review of modelling for MHD-enabled systemsThis report will review the critical aspects and shortcomings of stateofart computational tools for plasma flows including MHD effects with particular focus on thermochemical nonequilibrium models needed for an accurate prediction of electron densities and electrical conductivities and on the treatment of flowelectromagnetic field interactions The most representative reentry plasma codes will be analysed
Heat flux experiments w/o magnet reportA report will discuss a set of heat flux experiments conducted in highenthalpy air flows utilizing wellqualified and commonly deployed heat flux probe designs available at IRS Experimental data will be made available on a public repository
