Zero emission livestock project

Project description

Nose ring to reduce methane emissions

Methane is 85 times worse for global warming than carbon dioxide due to the way it traps heat. The methane emissions from 1.5 billion cows in the world represent the carbon equivalent of the whole of the transport industry put together. The EU-funded ZELP project is developing a patented wearable device in the form of a nose ring to drastically reduce the impact of livestock’s methane belch emissions. The project hopes to develop their prototype further to help reduce the environmental impact of methane emissions by a factor of 85.

Objective

There are 1.5 billion cows in the world, and they are huge contributors to global warming. Methane emissions from cows belching represent the carbon equivalent of the whole of the transport industry put together. Due to the way it traps heat, methane is 85 times worse for global warming than carbon dioxide.
ZELP created a patent-pending wearable device in the form of a nose ring to drastically reduce the impact of livestock’s methane belch emissions.
Today it is only a prototype, but tomorrow it will to help reduce the environmental impact of the methane emissions by a factor of 85!
