Design and AI for sustainable and safe motorCYcles

Project description

Smart and safe electric motorcycles

Electric motorcycles with zero CO2 emissions could emerge as the perfect solution for sustainable transport. Advanced technologies used in designing electric motorcycles increase safety as well. Sweden’s Tarform Motorcycles launched such an advance prototype in 2018 by exploiting its experience in artificial intelligence (AI), innovative industrial design, excellent software development as well as state-of-the-art digital communication competence. The EU-funded DAICY project will study the technical and financial feasibility of an AI solution that increases safety when riding a motorcycle. The Tarform concept has received enthusiastic reception from the vehicle sector, particularly the motorcycle industry that is associated with high injuries and death tolls.

Objective

Tarform launched its first two fully functioning concept prototypes on October 9th, 2018. To date Tarform has received over 700 reservations, more than 120 articles published in design and tech media and requests for partnerships from global leaders in the automotive sector, evidently proving there is a demand for this vision in the motorcycle industry. For example, the concept prototype is currently part of the new exhibition, Electric Revolution, at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles. Adding to that, Tarform has a dynamic and entrepreneurial team with competence in a variety of sectors relevant to our mission and vision. Sectors including AI, excellence in industrial design, proficiency in software development, strong entrepreneurial drive as well as advanced digital communication capabilities.
The goal of phase 1 is to investigate the technical and financial feasibility of the innovation, being an artificial intelligence platform for increased safety when riding a motorcycle, and get official commitments from a number of test partners on top of the ones we have already secured.
The project will have a substantial impact in Tarform AB’s performance, with a very promising growth trajectory. By 2023, Tarform expects to reach additional revenue of €45M and create 80 new jobs in various sectors such as manufacturing, marketing, AI technology, sustainability and design. In addition to creating a more sustainable world by introducing an electric motorcycle free of CO2 emissions, the goal is also to vastly diminish injuries and death tolls relating to motorcycle use by integrating new technological features in the motorcycle utilizing the technological innovations that is currently available. Considering the initial investment budget for the Phase 1 and 2, a financial return is feasible upon the time of commercialization by year 4 (2023). Our estimated accumulated profit will then be €7.265 M.
