Project description
Smart, safer parking system for bikes
Cycling is the most efficient mode of transportation. It’s also becoming the preferred mode of transportation across Europe. Unfortunately, bicycles are very easy to steal. The EU-funded BIKEINSIDE project will prepare for the commercialisation of an automated modular vertical parking for bicycles that protects them from destruction and theft. This innovative parking technology combines mechatronics, sensors and IT technologies to make it easy, compact and flexible to use. Their advanced modular technology also permits maximum economy in terms of parking space. It can be used to offer parking services, but also a renting of advertising space. The goal is to reach international markets with 575 systems sold in the next five years.
Objective
"Anyone who has a bicycle is aware of theft risk. ICVS refers about 13 million bicycle thieves per year in the World. In Italy, FIAB has estimated around 350,000 bicycles theft per year, which means an economic damage of 150 million euro/year. The London Cycle Theft Survey 2016 reports more than 45% of riders had at least one bicycle stolen whilst 75% of cyclists seeks for more secure bike stands.
OLTRE, an innovative Italian start-up with excellent expertize in industrial automation, is proposing a disruptive automated bike parking solution owing more secure and smart solution against theft, vandalism and atmospheric agents. This is BIKEINSIDE.
BIKEINSIDE is a highly modular parking system that implements some of most advanced solutions in terms of mechatronics, sensors and IT solutions. An original business model based on loan-for-free-use of the infrastructure is proposed. Revenues come from two types of services: sale of parking/renting services to users at affordable rates and sale of advertising spaces.
The unique features of our technology are: i) high modularity and flexibility, ii) high parking density (80% less land occupation); iii) short time to park or retrieve (12sec), reduced by 60% compared to existing automated systems; iv) eye-catching design of the infrastructure (attractive space for advertising); v) lower commissioning costs.
On a 5-years outlook, BIKEINSIDE is expected to generate a cumulative turnover of 105 M€ and an EBITDA of 25%, for 575 systems expected to be installed worldwide. OLTRE has already collected more than 15 letters of endorsement from potential clients and stakeholders.
One bike emits 21 g of CO2 per passenger/km, ten times less than a regular car. Promotion of bike mobility will help to reduce CO2 emissions, improve air quality, reduce noise and hence to have safer and healthier cities for all citizens.
OLTRE was awarded of the Innovation Voucher from the Piedmont Region and BIKEINSIDE received the SME1 ""Seal of Excellence""."
