COMMUNITIES FOR SCIENCES (C4S) Towards promoting an inclusive approach in Science Education

Periodic Reporting for period 2 - C4S (COMMUNITIES FOR SCIENCES (C4S) Towards promoting an inclusive approach in Science Education)

Période du rapport: 2022-04-01 au 2023-11-30

Science is central in current modern societies. However social stereotypes and discriminatory practices affecting and invisibilising specific communities (people with disability, minorities, immigrants, women,…) also occur in science. Therefore an inclusive science education approach is necessary in the EU, home to numerous vulnerable communities, to ensure their full participation in society. For this reason, the EU-funded C4S project aims to research the relationships between science and society by focusing on vulnerable communities to ensure their visibility and equal access in science and to improve the knowledge-base on inclusive science education. For this reason, science education activities will be organised at six local hubs for children and their families to promote science awareness and inclusive science education approaches.
The project C4S has involved children, families, educators and experts from the target communities. The impact has reach beyond the pedagogical settings with networking with other institutions for local sites. Also policy makers were involve as well.
The main outputs of the project are the White Book on Inclusive Science Education, the Communication Style Guide on Inclusive Science Education (ISE) and the International Observatory on Inclusive Science Educations. These outcomes impact different societal and institutional levels, pushing Inclusive Science Education (ISE) as a flagship initiative.
One of the main outputs of the project, the International Observatory on Inclusive Science Education (IOISE) will give continuity to the project with the mission to provide new reports, publications and pedagogical materials and also network with relevant science institutions in the EU. Also, with the research undertaken, we will promote transference to other EU realities.
