How to get rid of plastic cutlery? Biodegradable products made out of beer waste

Project description

Biodegradable disposable cutlery

Can drinking beer be good for the environment? Not really, but it could soon become reality! Brewers grains are the solid residue left after the processing of germinated and dried cereal grains to produce beer. Thanks to the innovative EU-funded FriendlyKnife project, this waste can be used to make eco-friendly disposable cutlery. The project aims to develop a new technology to produce single-use spoons, forks and knives, and possibly other items as well. The new products will be cheaper and eco-friendlier than the currently available disposable cutlery.

Objective

The object of this proposal is to develop new technology of single use products made of brewery grain - spoons, forks and knives, with further possibility to expand the technology to other products that can be used instead of plastic ones.
Our unique approach is to offer eco-friendly disposable cutlery that is much cheaper than similar solutions actually available on the market. At the same time, we will use waste that currently is environmental nuisance, so the eco friendly impact will be even greater. Our product will be the perfect choice: single use, eco-friendly product and an economically justified expense.
