Big Data applications for Black hole Evolution STudies

Deliverables

Consortium Agreement

The leading node Southampton will ensure proper completion of the Consortium Agreement in due time

Final report on Secondments

Every 12 months, after month 1, the leader beneficiary of the Training WP7, will compile a report on the status of the Secondments. The annual reports will be included in the annual progress reports (Progress report Y1, Periodic report 1, Progress report Y3, Periodic report 2).

Machine/deep-learning-based probabilities for merger/bar/clumpy status of AGN host galaxies

Calculate stateoftheart probabilities of mergerbarclumpiness status of AGN host galaxies based on advanced Convolutional Neural Networks trained against zoomin highresolution hydrodynamic simulations

Bayesian and MCMC-based Eddington ratio distributions

Measure the Eddington ratio (accretion) distributions of AGN by combining the J-PAS narrow-band photometric survey with wide-area and deep pencil-beam X-ray/IR surveys.

Bayesian/machine-learning-based column density/SFR distributions

Compare the nuclear extinction from the X-ray data to the host-galaxy SED-derived extinction to place constraints on the scale of the obscuration.

Data cubes of spatially resolved host galaxy properties and AGN outflows

Completion of large samples to characterize demography of AGN outflows.

Advanced databases for diverse AGN cosmological models

Determine the key observational differences among models with different black-hole triggering mechanisms. Create suite of mock catalogues under different assumptions for the underlying physics.

Selection-corrected AGN statistical indicators

Combine multiwavelength observations to identify AGN at different bands of the electromagnetic spectrum (X-rays, infrared, optical/UV), and build a consistent AGN (bolometric) luminosity function and full projected correlation function as a function of reshift, luminosity, obscuration, and galaxy properties.

Analytic recipes for black hole growth informed by zoom-in simulations

Build the full evolution of black holes triggered with different mechanisms within largescale cosmological semianalytic models SAMs inclusive of stateoftheart thermalkinetic AGN feedback as inspired by zoomin simulations

Final conference proceedings and draft of BiD4BEST book

Final conference proceedings and draft of a book, supported by the Unbound platform, will be made publicly available.

Bayesian and deep-learning-based template fitting algorithms

Develop machinedeeplearning algorithms to optimise AGN selection down to the Xray weakComptonthick AGN buried in highly starforming host galaxies

Multiscale hydro simulations with Radiative Transfer and (diverse) AGN feedback

Test different physical processes for black hole fuelling and related AGN activity in cosmological, hydrodynamical simulations. Develop and implement new models for mechanical AGN feedback in state-of-the-art, magneto-hydrodynamical simulations inclusive of cosmic rays. Investigate how the radiation emitted by the AGN couples to the interstellar medium by solving the full radiative transfer equation. Follow self-consistently the chemical evolution of the gas phase. Compare predictions from multiscale simulations for the connection between AGN evolution, host galaxy properties and large-scale environment with observations.

Analytic models for black hole growth derived via MCMC and Bayesian inference techniques

Statistical determination of the supermassive blackhole and stellar mass functions of active and quiescent galaxies at different redshifts with different input light curves Predict the mean relation between black hole accretion rate and star formation rate as a function of stellar mass and cosmic time

CNN-based AGN wind selections algorithms

Develop machine\deep-learning methods that use multiwavelength photometric properties to select interesting AGN (strong winds) among X-ray populations.

Dissemination and Outreach Plan

A detailed dissemination plan will be developed with a roadmap of what will be disseminated at what time and to what level always complying with the publication rules and IPR rights settled in the Consortium Agreement It will also describe the science publication policies About outreach activities ESRs will be actively involved and trained for this activity Some examples mentioned in the DoA the following Charity work eg with DataKind datakindorg International Womens Day Stargazing Live in the UK 500 participants World Space Week activities at local science centres International Day of Light the yearly European Researchers Night science festivals etc There will be also other activities that will be added in the plan

Network portal

The leader of WP7 will take care of setting up the ITN portal with the use of third parties and internal resources to the network and then write a public report about the portal to the benefit of the whole network

Machine-learning tools for photo-z and AGN selections

Develop machine-deep-learning methods for photometric redshifts and Bayesian/Monte Carlo routines for optimization of AGN selections in multiwavelength data.

Conference proceedings and/or contributions

A report will be issued listing the full number of contributions to international conferences. At least 13 conference proceedings and/or contributions are expected by the fellows of the project.

Cutting-edge tools for data cube visualization of AGN host galaxy properties

Distinguish the physical links between AGN activity and host galaxy properties (stellar mass, star-formation rate, morphology and/or environment) in the local Universe. Create tools to visualise data cubes.

Papers submitted to peer-refereed, high-impact journals

A report will be issued listing the full number of papers submitted/published in refereed, high-impact factor journals. At least 13 papers are expected to be submitted to peer-refereed, high-impact journals from the fellows of the project.
