Periodic Reporting for period 1 - LIVE-I (Lightening and Innovating transmission for improving Vehicle: Environmental Impacts)
Période du rapport: 2020-03-01 au 2022-02-28
LIVE-I project main objective is to achieve breakthrough technological progress in the design of lightweight gear transmission and to build an innovative training network in order to educate early stage researchers.
The technical objective of LIVE-I project aims at demonstrating a significant weight reduction of transmission using advanced modeling tools and digital twins together with advanced materials and systems.
This objective will be pursued along different ways, each starting with mass reduction and exploring ways to achieve compromises between weight, efficiency, noise and vibration impacts. The modeling will cope with physical complexities of the problem, connected to non-linearities, multi-scale character among others.
The weight/NVH (Noise, Vibration, Harshness) and efficiency improvements of gear transmissions will be tackled by introducing new paradigms in the design of housing and components, using new meta-materials and meta-structures, studying the robustness of a given optimization with respect to real manufacturing conditions, developing smart concepts in accordance with vibroacoustic comfort.
The ESRs are all able to progress independently on their subject and are on track to produce results. Although a few articles are being prepared at the end of this first reporting period, these have not yet been published on the channels. The second half of the project will definitely be more oriented towards dissemination, communication and promotion activities.
Impacts are expected on several aspects. First, enhancing the career perspectives and employability of researchers and contribution to their skills development. This will take the form of short and long term benefits for the ESRs. the development of technical and scientific skills, carreer management and effective communication will be regarded as immediate benefits, while networking, seeking opportunities, entrepreneurhip, skills or team management will be regarded as long term benefits.
Second, contributing to structuring doctoral/early-stage research training at the European level and to strengthening European innovation capacity. This takes the form of research excellence, attractive work environment, interdisciplinary research options, exposure to industry, international networking, soft skills trainings. The goals of the project are fully in line with the H2020 objectives to fight climate change and promote sustainable development.
Third, on the quality of the proposed measures to exploit and disseminate the results. This will take the form of dissemination of research results over the scientific and industrial network. Specifically, it will occur at academic level in the form of high-level scientific publications in open access journals, and participation to international conferences. At the technical level, participation and interactions with stakeholders and economic actors, participation to industry oriented conferences and technical workshops.
