Periodic Reporting for period 2 - ARCADE (Aligning Research & Innovation for Connected and Automated Driving in Europe)
Berichtszeitraum: 2020-04-01 bis 2022-07-31
1 Provide a forum for the CAD stakeholder community to exchange lessons learned and best practices
• Strengthen European and international stakeholders' engagement and cooperation
• Facilitate and coordinate the cooperation between national & European funding programmes
2 Support international cooperation in CAD
• Coordinate EU contribution to the EU-US-JPN Tri-lateral WG on Automated Road Transport
• Extend international cooperation to additional countries
3 Build-up synergies and common views on deployment scenarios and research needs for CAD
• Clarify challenges, gaps and enablers for the main thematic areas related to CAD deployment and adoption
• Involve Industry, Public and Research stakeholders into contributions to the STRIA roadmap on Connected and Automated Road transport and other Strategic Research Agendas towards decision makers
4 Consolidate a Knowledge Base of common frameworks, methodologies & standards for evaluation & data sharing in connected and automated transport
• Provide a common framework for exchanging knowledge and experience between CAD LSP projects
• Facilitate access to prior knowledge and data from European and national pilot projects
Connected Automated Driving is one of the key technologies and major technological advancements influencing and shaping our future mobility and quality of life. It must therefore take a key role in the European Transport policy to support several of its objectives and societal challenges, such as road safety, congestion, decarbonisation, inclusiveness and accessibility.
ARCADE facilitated cooperation with other world regions to exchange knowledge, expertise and best practice through participation in the Trilateral ART WG, and analysed the possible extension of cooperation on specific CAD topics with Singapore, Canada, Israël, Australia, South Korea, United Arab Emirates, India, Russia to provide recommendations for international cooperation in CCAM Partnership Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA).
ARCADE coordinated WG on Coordination & Cooperation of R&I and testing activities of the Single Platform for Open Road Testing and Pre-deployment of Cooperative, Connected, Automated & Autonomous Mobility.
ARCADE identified and stakeholder validated research priorities to contribute to the CCAM Partnership SRIA roadmap and ERTRAC roadmap for CCAM (version 10, completed in 2022).
ARCADE analysed 62 (ongoing and finished) EU projects in CCAM to describe overall findings, identify specific synergies and gaps, and derive recommendations for future R&I topics in the 24 areas defined within the CCAM SRIA.
ARCADE has delivered a comprehensive and searchable repository for knowledge and data related to CAD research and innovation in Europe. The CAD Knowledge Base includes information on R&I projects and testing activities, thematic areas, regulations and policies, roadmaps and action plans, standards, guidelines and evaluation methodologies, and data sharing practices. It also features a glossary, frequently asked questions, archives of previous EUCAD events, and news updates.
Communication and dissemination activities played a crucial role in the project's success, with the project/Knowledge Base website, social media channels, and presentations at CAD-related conferences and events involving large stakeholder communities, in different regions, being key elements of these efforts. The Knowledge Base and social media are exploitation tools themselves, which together with the stakeholder Network events are moreover continued in the follow-up project FAME.
• Improved understanding of the factors and measures that can better unlock and foster the adoption of CCAM
Thematic area working groups analyzed uncertainties, challenges and enablers, as well as research gaps, and produced reports reflecting the consensus view of the Stakeholder Network. These were then used as a basis for the ERTRAC CCAM and the CCAM SRIA roadmaps. Stakeholder events facilitated the exchange of knowledge and the consolidation of a consensus view.
• Closer cooperation between CAD stakeholders within Europe and worldwide
Activities of the Joint CAD Stakeholder Network provided opportunities for exchange, consensus and synergies building; links were established with national R&I initiatives; participation in the Trilateral ART Working Group activities and adjacent conferences facilitated international cooperation
• Increased visibility, comparability, transferability and reuse of research and demonstration projects results
ARCADE consolidated a web-based Knowledge Base centralizing information about CAD research and testing activities, their results and experiences were analyzed and shared. The organised conferences and stakeholder events increased the visibility of CAD research and demonstrations. Exchanges with international counterparts and trilateral meetings facilitated comparability and transferability of EU research results
• Better coordination of national and multinational funding programmes and reduced overlaps when setting R&I priorities
ARCADE facilitated the participation of R&I projects in stakeholder events to share results and experiences to avoid duplication. Mapping of R&I projects helped identify commonalities, gaps, and research priorities. Lessons learned from R&I projects were collected, analyzed, and consolidated to benefit future research initiatives
• Support to EU Member States and stakeholders undertaking or planning large scale public road tests with CAVs
The Knowledge Base supports stakeholders with information on pilot lessons learnt, evaluation methodologies, data sharing principles, and testing regulations.
