Cyanotoxins in Irrigation Waters: Surveillance, Risk Assessment, and Innovative Remediation proposals

Deliverables

Papers from phytotoxicity studies

The original scientific work will be disseminated in 2 scientific papers, covering the results of plant performance and yield and plant contamination.

Paper on analytical methods

Original research paper reporting the developments achieved in cyanotoxin analysis.

Dissemination plan to schools and general public

Report detailing the dissemination and the communication plan to be implemented by the consortium.

Progress report 2

Progress report for period up to M54. This includes an analysis of risks and deviations to the work plan in respect to the time-table, the secondment activities, the achievement of milestones, the scope of the deliverables, and the proposal of countermeasures and adjustments in the work plan to secure that most of the actions of the work plan are completed until the date of project clusing.

Report on the methods developed/optimized for the quantification of cyanotoxins in soil and plant matrices

Cyanobacterial biomasses

Large scale production of toxic cyanobacteria strains in laboratory to be used in plant contamination studies.

Nutritional value of vegetables

Report on the toxicological effects of cyanotoxins focusing the nutritional value of plant crops

Sample contamination and toxicological report

A report will be elaborated referring the contamination of all plant materials from WP 3 and 4 analysed by USE and CIIMAR.

Plant performance

Report on the toxicological effects of cyanotoxins, taking as main plant descriptors physiological performance (growth) and yield.

Papers from field studies

2 papers will be published to disseminate original results obtained regarding the identification of toxic phytoplancton, and water-soil-plant system contamination with cyanotoxins.

Field sampling strategy

To describe how the field sampling will be performed. This should define the sampling sites, sampling frequency, number of replicates, type of samples and crops to sample.

Papers on bioremediation

Scientific papers from original research of this WP, namely on CWs and MSLs optimization, system performance and water quality assessment.

Report on toxin removal rates in different CW models

Report concluding on the selection of a most promising system configuration and plant species for the elimination of cyanotoxins.

Risk assessment on field studies

Report on the results of cyanotoxins monitoring. This report will include an evaluation of the contamination of each area monitored bsed on the cyanotoxins levels detected.

Risk assessment on experimental studies

A report will be elaborated with will include a resume of the experimental results on crop contamination and a risk analysis on food safety and human exposure.

Progress report 1

Progress report of the 1st year of work. This includes an analysis of risks and deviations to the work plan in respect to the time-table, the secondment activities, the achievement of milestones, the scope of the deliverables, and the proposal of countermeasures and adjustments in the work plan to secure its feasibility.

Molecular profiling of toxic cyanobacteria

Report on the molecular analysis of phytoplancton, with a list of all potential toxic cyanobacteria species identified.

CW and MSL design guidelines

Technical report addressing CWs future design guidelines for optimized removal of toxic cyanobacteria and cyanotoxins.

Cyanotoxins Analysis workshop

Workshop addressing theoretical and practical aspects of the analysis of cyanotoxins in matrices of different origin (water, food, etc.).

Eco-technologies for water treatment workshop

Workshop addressed to the dissemination of latest research developments in the field of eco-technologies for water treatment and removal of cyanobacteria and cyanotoxins.

Project branding resources

A set of materials will be made available, as branding resources of TOXICROP project. These include a project Logo, informative flyer, PPT and Poster templates.

Thematic exhibition

Exhibition in the format of poster, available free to schools, addressing the societal challenges related with water scarcity and eutrophication.

Deliverable 'Data Management Plan

A Data management Plan will be established for open data access according to the EC instructions.

Web portal

Toxicrop webportal for easy dissemination of utmost pertinent information on the results, ongoing activities including seminars, workshops organized on behalf of the project. Intranet access will be created for the exchange of more confidential information within the consortium partners.
