The thematic guidelines will assist local authorities, consultants, decision makers, civil society and other stakeholders in Europe, China and world-wide in delivering UF-NBS to their communities and local stakeholders. Four sets of guidelines will be produced focused on the following critical areas: (a) cost-effective urban ecosystem restoration, ecological rehabilitation and new planning approaches and methods; (b) mechanisms for public and stakeholder engagement in planning and managing UF-NBS, with specific attention towards less-privileged groups; (c) management guidelines for UF-NBS, which will deal with planning, policy and delivery; and (d) change management and institutional reform for the better management of UF-NBS. Each set of guidelines will be presented in a user-friendly, graphic rich, and robust but not overly technical format, and will contain a checklist for non-technical senior managers. The guidelines will also incorporate the key findings and interpret the recommendations of the FAO Guidelines on urban and peri-urban forestry (FAO, 2016) for users in Europe and China. Each guideline will be produced in two versions, for European and Chinese audiences respectively, and that the differences are covered within each to allow for international comparison and cross-continental learning.
Online application for developing, modelling and assessing UF-NBS scenariosThe application will optimise UF-NBS for cost-effective and performant service delivery at diverging scales through developing, modelling and assessing UF-NBS. The scenario development will be based on remote sensing and GIS data processed in WP2 and will primarily use a rule-based method that translates expert-knowledge (WP2) into patterns – change in land-use, forest stand and tree density – for iterative time steps.
Educational package on UF-NBSThe educational package will be developed for reaching out to school children 1014 years and teachers This package will include adapted versions of the selected content delivered by the project It will integrate with the citizen science module developed in WP3 and will collaborate with the social media efforts particularly SnapChat Instagram and WeChat stories to reach the target groups
This deliverable will report on the course of the project, as described in the grant agreement.
Interdisciplinary analytical frameworkThis deliverable includes the analytical framework for systematically and participatorily studying and implementing UFBS and their im-pacts on the urban socio-ecological system, including socio-cultural, ecological and economic aspects. Top-ics addressed by the framework will include ecosystem functioning, biodiversity, ecosystem services provi-sioning, impacts on human wellbeing (including socio-environmental justice, urban liveability, equality, social inclusion and gender and public health), climate change adaptation and the cost-effectiveness of UFBS in cities and their peri-urban surroundings. The framework will show the contribution of different disciplines through assigned thematic experts and give guidance for analysing existing planning instruments and monitoring schemes.
The report summarises key findings and provides an overview and comparative perspective of relevant governance institutional and economic frameworks in China and Europe regarding UFNBS at different levels including the European eg guidance on naturebased solutions and on green infrastructure national eg the Forest City Construction Action in China regional and city level Particular attention will be paid to multilevel and networked governance dynamics in relation to urban development and contextual differences concerning UFNBS governance and implementation between countriesregions in Europe and China
Synthesis report summarising the comparative analysis of UF-NBS implementationThis report will describe the methods, results and conclusions from the 'prospective’ comparative analysis of concrete projects under development in paired cities and city regions, with a strong involvement of citizens/civic networks. Particular attention will be paid to (a) the similarities and differences in urban forest management and ecosystem service delivery and cost-effectiveness of UF-NBS in enhancing the resilience of the urban socio-ecological system, and (b) governance settings as well as the role and involvement of different societal groups (government, businesses, gender and culturally defined citizens, civic associations, and other intermediaries). Barriers and challenges for effective implementation of UF-NBS will be identified, and related to the findings of the survey of social perceptions regarding UF-NBS (see D1.3) and the findings of the governance, institutional and economic frameworks analysis (D1.4).
Review report on UF-NBS for European and Chinese resilient citiesThis deliverable is the output of a review of knowledge on UFNBS in China and Europe compiled by the CLEARING HOUSE consortium see M13 The review will apply rapid review methods Patnode et al 2018 ie a structured interpretation and evaluation of the current knowledge used to collate evidence on intended outcomes and unintended impacts of UFNBS for urban ecosystem regeneration and human wellbeing The review process will be done by a core group of project partners UNIBA HKUSIRI HUB CAFRIF VUB EFI UniLodzki LGI CFRI CREAF LUKE
Learning process evaluation report, including options for durable institutionalisationBased on the continuous learning process evaluation, this report will discuss the learning process throughout CLEARING HOUSE, and discuss how the approach can be institutionalised.
Report on a novel standardised Sino-European UF-NBS typologyThis deliverable will report on the nove standardised SinoEuropean typology for Urban ForestBased Solutions UFNBS This deliverable is based on the work in task 11 which will identify describe and map UFNBS in European and Chinese cities This analysis will also encompass new strategies not necessarily implemented yet in urban planning and green infrastructure and urban tree and forestry design on both continents The similarities and differences between UFNBS initiatives will be identified and major driving forces determining them in terms of social and economic factors will be mapped out D11 will be fed into the SinoEuropean codesign event M32 month 18 and the development of the analytical framework T15
Report on societal perceptions and demands towards UF-NBS in China and EuropeThis report will include the results and conclusions from the societal perceptions and demands survey on UFNBS in China and Europe in Task 13
Report on the exploratory analysis of all the case studiesThe deliverable describes the methods results and conclusions of the exploratory analysis of the case study cities and city clusters and will be used as a base for developing the screening tool and the the interdisciplinary analytical framework for the project
Sino-European co-design reportThis report includes the core outcomes of the event, which will be decisive to inform the analytical framework for the case study analysis, and to inform the research programme in the project.
Report on the citizen science approach in the case studiesThis deliverable reports on the implementation of the citizen science approach in the project, analyses its performance, and seeks to durably establish the methodology in the case studies and beyond.
Report on business models and investment cases for UF-NBSThis deliverable will review the business models and investment cases on UF-NBS identified in Task 4.1 and will describe the novel business models and investment cases tested and developed in CLEARING HOUSE.
Final report on learning mechanism activitiesThis report give an overview of the activities, results and outcomes resulting from both calls for innovative knowledge of planning and managing UF-NBS for urban ecosystem restoration and rehabilitation.
Report from testing and piloting the tools in field laboratoriesThe deliverable will describe the results from piloting the tools in the field laboratories, and will be presented in the final science-policy symposia. These laboratories include existing, new or restored ecosystems and are set up according to the “urban learning lab approach” used in the FP7-project GREEN SURGE.
Local co-design workshops synthesis reportThis deliverable describes the results of the local codesign workshops including relevant questions for research from stakeholders perspectives and suggestions for the analytical framework development
Mid-term report on learning mechanisms under the 1st callThis report describes the results and outcomes of the activities selected in the first call for innovative knowledge of planning and managing UFNBS for urban ecosystem restoration and rehabilitation
The guidance document will support the preparation and conduct of the workshops including stakeholder analysis and selection The document will be tested with some case study partner before finalisation and then be introduced to all case study partners via a webinar
Screening tool for the exploratory case study analysisThe screening tool will encompass analytical questions from all disciplines and assign responsible research partners for their analysis
The benchmark will assess structure and design of UF-NBS, and their environmental, ecological, economic and social impacts. The benchmarking tool is not only to be used for comparing different UF-NBS in different locations, but will also be useful for assessing single UF-NBS during their planning and design phases (“quick scan”). The benchmarking tool will be closely linked with IUCN’s Global Standard on Nature-Based Solutions for Societal Challenges. Potential users are closely involved in the development of the benchmarking tool through a users’ evaluation of a mockup-template of the benchmarking tool.
