Periodic Reporting for period 5 - JIVE 2 (Joint Initiative for hydrogen Vehicles across Europe 2)
Período documentado: 2023-01-01 hasta 2023-12-31
- Deploy 157 fuel cell buses in 11 locations across Europe (original objective of the project: 152 buses).
- Achieve a maximum bus price of €625,000 and validate novel procurement/ownership approaches.
- Operate buses for three years or 150,000km per vehicle with an average fleet availability of at least 90%.
- Provide anchor demands to justify installation of new hydrogen refuelling infrastructure in each site.
- Demonstrate routes to low cost (<9 €/kg dispensed) renewable hydrogen.
- Reduce environmental impact of bus operations by operating the fuel cell buses in place of diesel vehicles for extended periods.
- Provide evidence of the technical and commercial suitability of fuel cell buses for further roll-out.
- Stimulate further uptake of FC buses via a comprehensive, high-impact dissemination campaign.
- 122 buses out of 157 have been delivered as of December 2023, representing 77% of the full JIVE 2 fleet. During Period 5, 24 new buses were delivered (Pau II and Crawley) and c. 40% of these new buses began operations. The missing 35 buses from Zerobus and Brighton and Hove Buses are expected to be all deployed by the end of Q4 2024.
- A reliability campaign is being carried out by SAFRA at both the Toulouse and Auxerre sites to run a complete bus maintenance and repair operation with the aim to improve the buses’ reliability and performance.
- As of December 2023, more than 17 million km were travelled cumulatively by the JIVE and JIVE 2 buses.
- The project’s KPI on specific fuel consumption continues to be surpassed by all JIVE 2 sites (project to date data) with results ranging between 5.6 kg to 7.6 kg / 100 km for standard buses and reaching levels of 8.8 kg / 100 km for articulated buses. To date, the average for all JIVE 2 buses was 7.49kg/100 km.
- One JIVE 2 hydrogen refuelling station (Toulouse) began its onsite hydrogen production.
- The milestone of 1 million kg of hydrogen dispensed was reached in Q3 2023 across both JIVE and JIVE 2 stations.
- Two successful launch events were held in Period 5 in Toulouse (Hyport) and Crawley (Brighton and Hove Buses).
- The first Central and Easter European bus roadshow was successfully completed in January 2023 and the second bus roadshow took place in Poland and the Baltic region in September and October 2023. The roadshows comprised 32 events, engaging over 1,700 participants and garnering substantial media coverage, with 420 articles and programs reaching 5.3 million people. The roadshow initiatives led to a higher understanding of the technology and its benefits amongst a large audience. The key results from both events were submitted and published.
- The fifth EU Zero Emission Bus Conference took place in October 2023 and was for the first time hosted in partnership with Busworld Foundation. The conference gathered more than 400 participants and more than 70 speakers.
- Activities within the JIVE / JIVE 2 User Group continued with the organisation of two sessions in May and October 2023 alongside other events (the Clean Europe Bus Platform and the UITP Bus Committee for the former and ZEB 2023 for the latter).
- The JIVE 2 social media platforms were used to disseminate results from the JIVE 2 Bus Roadshows. Further JIVE/JIVE 2 site specific content will be pursued in the upcoming period. Fuel cell bus related news items were relayed through the fuelcellbus website throughout the period (17 publications).
