Rapid tree-planting through the use of remote sensing and unmanned vehicle planting technologies for large scale reforestation

Periodic Reporting for period 1 - BioCarbon (Rapid tree-planting through the use of remote sensing and unmanned vehicle planting technologies for large scale reforestation)

Berichtszeitraum: 2015-12-01 bis 2016-03-31

Within the project, BioCarbon Engineering investigated both the technical and business feasibility of their UAV-based planting technology and identified the key activities to have a commercially available solution.
BioCarbon Engineering spoke with many different partners and suppliers with the goal of building up a supply chain and testing its validity. We contacted and secured all of the organisations to get involved for the design and engineering activities. We also identified the sites for the field trials. We outlined an IP management strategy and a communication strategy.
BioCarbon Engineering propose a low cost fully automated planting system for use by forestry organisations, plantations, and restoration projects to enable industrial scale reforestation and land restoration. The system operates more efficiently than conventional methods, planting trees faster and cheaper. It is also more effective, as the flying UAV can plant in areas that cannot be easily accessed by land-based planting methods. The societal impacts involve the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and counteracting the impact of worldwide deforestation.
