Demonstration of the AutoSpar Harvesting machine used for white and violet asparagus

Objective

The main aim of the DASH project is to demonstrate the previously developed fully automatic & selective harvesting machine for white and violet asparagus. The SMEs (BZN, STRAUSS, TTC and IMIX) proposing the DASH project build on the excellent results achieved in their recently successfully completed FP 7 ‘Research for the benefits of SMEs’ project AutoSpar (Call Identifier: FP7-SME-2007-1, EC Grant Agreement 222137, Duration 01/10/2008 to 30/09/2010, www.autospar.net) funded by the European Commission. The results achieved present a real breakthrough for automatic asparagus harvesting. The existing AutoSpar prototype has reached pre-competitive status at the end of the AutoSpar project. However, only by the implementation of some further technological solutions in terms of robustness and for safety aspects the AutoSpar prototype will get into a position to fulfill the expected economic success to the AutoSpar SME beneficiaries and likewise the expected impacts to the European community.
