Cooperative Multipoint Transmission for Interference Coordination

Ziel

COMIC aims at defining Cooperative Multipoint (CoMP) techniques focused on interference mitigation based on efficient scheduling design and beamforming. These techniques will be divided into two groups. In a first phase a set of ideal techniques will be proposed assuming a perfect knowledge of the system state (users’ location, speed, bit error rates, etc.). A huge number of variables will be taken into account, thus increasing the complexity of these optimization problems. This group of techniques will be used as a reference to test the performance of a second group of more realistic techniques defined in a second phase. For these techniques, not all variables will be known and, moreover, there may be errors in measurements. Comparing the first and second group, the best realistic technique will be identified depending on their behaviour, errors impact and complexity. The design of all these algorithms will be carried out at Carleton University (CARLETON) during the first two years of fellowship. The mathematical requirements for completing this task compel to closely work with an expert group in telecommunications and applied mathematics like CARLETON. During the return phase at the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPVLC), COMIC will focus on implementation aspects of the best algorithms. Therefore, COMIC not only aims at studying theory aspects but also at evaluating practical implementation problems. Hence, all conclusions arisen from the outgoing phase will be experimentally validated using the simulation and radio-over-fiber platforms available at UPVLC. The interdisciplinary aspects of the outgoing and return phases correspond with the expertise of each host. Thanks to the theoretical and practical aspects that will be studied in COMIC, the results of this project are expected to have a huge impact.
