Objective
Background Through numerous NoEs, IPs and STREPs a steady stream of research results is being produced.Though the results get disseminated, there is an untapped opportunity in making the multitude of underlying competences, leading to these results, more accessible. For project coordinators, researchers in both industry and academia, grants offices as well as the EC,an adequate access to these competences is crucial for the establishment of future cutting edge joint research projects. To make competences accessible should not be confused with traditional listings of organisations or CVs in alfabetical order. The scientists demand much more strategically meaningful information on the skills.Furthermore the presentation of this information needs to be tailor made to the specific needs of each target group. The few initatives that have attempted to address these key challenges, have often failed due to the inability to keep information up-to-date,quality-assured or to long-term acceptable costs. Objectives The objective of LifeCompetence is to implement state-of-the-art competence management tools and processes, that master these challenges and make the competences in ongoing and future projects in the LSH priority accessible towards the key target groups. The purpose is to leverage the research investments made by the EC by enhancing the research collaboration process between academia and industry,in particular SMEs. Approach The LifeCompetence approach has already been successfully used by the Consortium. The key is to collect information based on already existing processes and information sources. Through e.g. project descriptions, publications, conference abstracts, news and other electronic footprints the researcher has made, her competence profile can be made accessible by an intelligent thematic structuring and semantic linking of the information, and this with increased efficiency and without imposing additional work on the researcher.
