Project description
Making construction equipment greener through innovative electric storage solutions
As the use of fossil fuel engines reaches an end, within the context of the EU's climate targets, original equipment manufacturers (OEM) of non-road mobile machinery make a shift to electrification. This implies facing demanding needs in term of autonomy, productivity, operation cost and investment costs. The EU-funded WATTELSE project will introduce a versatile, modular lithium-ion battery system using patented state-of-the-art technologies. WATTELSE's tailored solution addressed to OEMs will deliver high power rate or high energy density, depending on the construction needs. WATTALPS’ modular lithium-ion battery system is designed to be repurposed and reused at the end of a first life. It is also optimised for dismantling and recycling when not usable anymore.
Objective
For the construction sector, and more globally for Non-Road Mobile Machineries, electrification is a major stake, as most of construction equipment is working with diesel engines and presents a lot of drawbacks that will not be acceptable anymore in the future: Air pollution, Emission of CO2, Noise
Meantime, users of these machineries, e.g. construction companies, are facing very demanding needs in term of autonomy, productivity, operation cost and investment costs. The trade-off between all these parameters causes a lot of construction machineries to be still operated with diesel engines.
Non-road equipment original equipment manufacturers (OEM) begin to propose electrical solutions, but they are pricey, and the developments needed to engineer such solutions take a very long time, and demand advanced knowledge regarding battery management.
That is why WATTALPS propose its innovative turnkey solution to OEMs: A versatile, modular lithium-ion battery system using patented state-of-the-art technologies to provide OEMs with a tailored solution capable of maintaining power to equipment for an entire day at a high-power rate. WATTALPS masters the battery technology (cooling, power electronics…) and can deliver high power rate or high energy density, depending on the customers’ needs.
Using WATTALPS solution, Non-Road mobile machineries (NRMM) OEMs will be able to provide their customers electric solutions with a CAPEX divided by 20, and to accelerate their time to market by a 4 factor when compared with an in-house solution. This will be a real game changer for them, and for the demanded electrification of NRMM.
