Entry level training school: Using potato biodiversity in breeding

The EU-funded G2P-SOL project will be organising a training school in Lima, Peru.

5 November 2019 - 7 November 2019
Lima, Peru
At this training school combining theory and practice, attendees will learn about crop biodiversity and how genetic resources can be used in pre-breeding. The school is aimed at (junior) potato breeders and researchers from Latin America who are interested in potato biodiversity, how to utilise this in breeding and the use of modern breeding techniques.

The 3-day training course offers expert lectures with real-life examples of successful incorporation of important traits from wild or native germplasm into elite breeding materials, demonstrations on how to design a crossing block, and hands-on training in the usage of essential tools in breeding and germplasm characterisation. Modern breeding tools and methods such as diploid breeding, marker assisted selection and genome-wide association studies will be discussed.
