CHPM2030 final conference
CHPM2030 is an ambitious research project funded by the European Union under the Horizon 2020 programme for Research and Innovation that has been set up to help address these challenges. CHPM2030 is developing a novel technology that will combine geothermal energy production with metals extraction from the geothermal fluid in a single interlinked process, the Combined Heat Power and Metals (CHPM) technology.
The conference’s first session will be discussing the European policies that have been adopted to encourage the energy transition to gain an understanding of how these policies will provide directions for future developments: “Policy discussed by policymakers”.
The aim for the afternoon is to present actual projects where geoscience plays a key role in the realisation of the energy transition: “Projects presented by geologists for geologists”. In the framework of this session, preliminary outcomes of the CHPM2030 project will be presented.
Furthermore, it is our aim that the provided information and knowledge will improve our understanding of the future role geoscientists have to play in the energy transition, facilitate cross-fertilisation between different scientific areas and contribute to the objective to bring our society a step closer to reaching the goal of zero CO2 emissions.
A complementary fieldtrip will be organised on 24 May under the title “Exploring the Anthropocene”.
Sharing the knowledge and technology of geothermal energy is crucial for the further development of this resource. This workshop brings together the running geothermal projects funded by the Horizon 2020 programme of the European Commission. The aim of the workshop is to provide a glimpse into the geochemical aspects of geothermal fluids, promoting cross-fertilisation between different projects, providing a forum for the exchange of scientific knowledge and facilitating synergies between the projects.
