CAN WE DELIVER A GREEN DEAL?

An online panel session and debate featuring city leaders and experts from Milan, Utrecht, Skopje, Antalya and London will examine the most effective initiatives to achieve climate neutrality and a green recovery. Hosted as part of European Sustainable Energy Week 2020 – 10 June 2020 at 14:30-16:00 CET.

May 29, 2020 – Many cities have been successfully implementing smart and innovative solutions; but a new sense of urgency and pragmatism is required if Europe is to become the world’s first climate-neutral continent by 2050 and its mission to achieve 100 climate neutral cities by 2030. How do we achieve it? A collective of 22 cities in 20 countries has collaborated to answer this question, and this online session with a close look at a system change solutions to achieve climate neutrality. The 10 June session will provide participants with successful examples of solutions contributing to Green Deal objectives, with a strong focus on new efficient and clean cities in regard to the energy generation and consumption as well as sustainable urban mobility. Attendees will hear headline assessments of current trajectory, quick take-aways from a city perspective and a concrete case study from each city speaker. In addition to setting the scene for European cities, moderator Ana Lisa Boni, Secretary General of EuroCities, will also lead a 30-minute question and answer opportunity. This session is designed to give actionable insights to audiences from cities of all sizes, geographies and economic situations. The goal: that every person participating leaves the session with a fresh idea to power a green recovery. Because citizens and businesses are also central to the solution, speakers will include success factors for industrial partnerships, creating investment opportunities with acceptable risks and activating local communities and businesses in meeting our sustainability challenges. This session will be of particular interest to development agencies, EU and national policymakers, urban planners, energy companies and authorities and mobility management and delivery organisations in particular. The event is co-organised by the EU Smart City projects IRIS and MAtchUP in collaboration with EIT Climate-Kic, Comune di Milano, Consorzio Poliedra and Greater London Authority.
