GEARING Roles Leaders social media Campaign

GEARING Roles is launching an online social media campaign to encourage greater awareness of the importance of women in leadership.

GEARING Roles is an EU funded project which seeks to design, implement, and evaluate six Gender Equality Plans (GEPs) in six different research institutions, with the firm objective of challenging and transforming gender roles and identities linked to professional careers, and work towards real institutional change. Although we are seeing increasing numbers of women in leadership positions globally, this number still remains relatively small. Indeed, women made up 27% of board members (including leaders) in the EU in 2017, 21,7% of heads of institutions in the Higher Education Sector (HES) were women in 2017 and only 24.3% of all national parliamentarians were women as of February 2019, a slow increase from 11.3% in 1995. It is for this reason that GEARING Roles seeks to address gender imbalances in the representation, processes, and promote the leadership of women in research institutions. In conjunction with various sister projects and external stakeholders, GEARING Roles will be launching a campaign on Twitter between the 11th and 18th of May on leadership. This campaign will aim to raise awareness of our activities focused on increasing women in leadership positions. It will also seek to raise awareness of the importance of women in leadership and what successful leadership looks like while encouraging greater gender equality across all disciplines and positions.
