Second Integration Week of the H2020 Wi-5 Project in Zaragoza
In the next months, tests with real users are to be carried out, so the project partners have met in order to integrate the different parts of the solution, to make them work together flawlessly. This includes different modules: first, the Wi-Fi Access Points have to gather monitoring information, and forward it to a central controller, which updates its view of the network. Using this information, the controller runs a series of smart algorithms for calculating different parameters that can improve the network performance. One example of this is the algorithm developed in Liverpool, which is able to calculate an optimal channel for each of the Access Points. Furthermore the distribution of the user’s devices between the available Access Points can be improved. In addition, different tests of the “handover” (i.e. the process of moving a user from one Access Point to another) have been carried out. It has been shown that this can be achieved with a very low impact on the user’s perceived quality: he/she will only experience a short interruption of the service of 30 or 50 milliseconds. The Integration Week was quite extensively covered in the press: Aragon TV has made a summary, some radio stations have also interviewed the participants, and finally some newspapers have published different items of news on the subject.
