mySMARTLife Video Channel: Dance, Fly and Learn

What is mySMARTLife about? It is about life in the Lighthouse Cities Nantes, Hamburg and Helsinki and it is about making life in these cities more sustainable by reducing their CO2 emissions. mySMARTLife transcends environmental dimensions and is about inclusive cities that offer a high quality of life. At the end of November 2018, the three Lighthouse Cities put this vision on the screen and have produced videos for each city.

These videos are as diverse as the cities themselves but they have a common thread of innovation and smartness. They are all part of the newly set up mySMARTLife YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCQHADwQ6NKmb2b4ap-kHn5w Dance in Nantes Nantes sets out itself as an experimental playground of ideas involving citizens and focusing on smart energy, smart mobility and smart economy. The fast-paced video gives a taste of a European adventure that Nantes embarks upon. “Engaging citizens and local stakeholders in smart cities development is essential to bring new ideas and turn them into valuable actions for people and for the area,” states Benoit Cuvelier, project manager for Nantes Metropole. Fly over Hamburg The Borough of Bergedorf is diverse with a historic centre including numerous heritage-listed houses as well as residential buildings and it is the main demonstration area of mySMARTLife in Hamburg. The innovative 360-degree video gives an impressive view of the area. In this immersive video, a view in every direction is recorded at the same time using a collection of cameras. “A virtual flight over one of the most important development areas of the City of Hamburg shows us new views of the direct proximity of renewable energies and their use in the city,” as Johannes Mielchen, Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, Borough of Bergedorf, explains. For the best video experience, we recommend using a virtual reality device, or to use the latest version of your browser on your computer and set the video quality on HD (1440s). On mobile devices, use the latest version of the YouTube app for Android or iOS. Learn from Helsinki Helsinki uses in its video the ambition to become carbon neutral as a starting point, seeing the city as a platform for new and innovative solutions. For example, in the area of mobility, they are piloting a robot bus, fully electric and automated. They also display the first two-way e-charging point that is connected to local energy provider Helen’s solar power plant and storage facility. “The City of Helsinki carries on with consistent work on its carbon neutrality target by the year 2035. The video highlights some of the innovative solutions in place in the field of smart mobility and energy efficiency of buildings,” says Climate Expert Mira Jarkko (from the City of Helsinki Urban Environment Division). “All videos produced by the mySMARTLife Lighthouse Cities demonstrate innovation, in the way they have been produced and also in their content. I hope all viewers share my enthusiasm as we dance, fly and learn from some of the best,” states Rubén García Pajares, project coordinator of mySMARTLife. You can find more information on concrete mySMARTLife actions in our project leaflet and in the intervention section on the mySMARTLife website: https://mysmartlife.eu The mySMARTLife project aims at making the three Lighthouse Cities of Nantes, Hamburg and Helsinki more environmentally friendly by reducing the CO2 emissions of cities and increasing the use of renewable energy sources. Activities are focusing on “Inclusive Cities”, offering a high quality of life to residents. “Smart People” are playing a vital role in their city’s development. “Smart Economy” is an innovative and dynamic economic concept aiming at guaranteed employment and an adequate income, attracting talents and providing goods and services according to the actual requirements. In addition to these non-technological actions, the activities planned and carried out in the three demonstrator cities include new technological developments in connection with refurbishments of buildings, usage of renewable energies, clean transport and supporting ICT solutions. mySMARTLife is funded under the EU’s Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation programme under GA no. 731297. Under the coordination of CARTIF Technology Centre, 27 partners from 6 countries are collaborating to make sustainable cities a reality.
