Stardust releases its project video
Stardust is a Smart Cities and Communities (SCC) project funded under the EU Horizon 2020 programme, which started in October 2017 and will end by September 2022. It will form a constellation of 'innovation islands' or smart, highly efficient, intelligent and citizen-oriented cities by first integrating both innovative technical and non-technical solutions in three Lighthouse cities. Afterwards, blueprints will be developed for other cities to use as the actions already implemented in the Lighthouse cities will be replicated and verified across four follower cities. Its expected impacts include reduced carbon emissions and energy consumption roughly by 60% and 50% respectively, increased citizens’ quality of life and ensured economic viability of these cities. Being the first video launched under the Stardust project, it will continue to open up a communication pathway between citizens, policymakers, the industry and academia in order to build a better future for their cities. Stardust is part of the SCC Lighthouse projects community, which wishes to change the way people perceive their cities. Representatives from the community including Stardust have recently signed all together a Manifesto of Cooperation. This stresses the importance for all 12 Lighthouse projects to work together and maximise their impacts, spread their best practices across Europe, remind their citizens of the cities’ climate commitments, and develop tools and standards that will act as a reference point for cities outside the Lighthouse projects and for projects to follow.
