Marine Microbes for Biotechnology – Industry-Focused Special Issue of MaCuMBA Project News Now Available
MaCuMBA is a four-year EC FP7-funded project that aims to uncover the untold diversity of marine microbes using cultivation-dependent strategies. This special issue of the newsletter focuses on how MaCuMBA is contributing to the marine biotechnology sector. Having an impact on this sector is an important aspect of MaCuMBA as its partners work towards exploiting the results of their research on culturing the uncultured and improving the cultivation of other marine micro-organisms to enable the screening of interesting organisms and their compounds. This issue of MaCuMBA Project News features: profiles of MaCuMBA’s industry and SME partners; feedback from an industry representative who attended the MaCuMBA round table session at BioMarine 2014; insights from Pierre Erwes, Executive Chairman of BioMarine, on the marine biotechnology sector in Europe; information about the upcoming Marine Micr’Omics for Biotech Applications industry expert workshop, organised in collaboration with the Micro B3 and Pharmasea projects, which will be held in Spain from 30-31 March 2015; a list of relevant marine biotechnology industry events coming up in 2015; and details of the MaCuMBA Summer School which will be held from 12-24 July 2015 in Texel, the Netherlands.
