Cel
Several Lepidopterous insect species are key pests of the olive tree in Mediterranean countries and are controlled by frequent insecticide applications These cause environmental pollution and contamination of the olive products. The proposed project TRIPHELIO will develop an economically feasible and sustainable insecticide-free pest management system by the combination of
(1) inundate releases of mass reared egg parasitoids,
(2) use of pheromones for mating disruption and monitoring,
(3) habitat management strategies to enhance the role of natural enemies. An intense exchange of scientific information and technology between European and North African countries will create solutions for a wide range of olive growing regions. The results will help to reduce the use of pesticides in crop protection and will initiate local small industry for the production of beneficial and equipment for Biological Control.
