Biophysical and bioinorganic marie curie training site

Cel

The Warwick Biophysical and Bioinorganic team invite applications for postgraduate Marie Curie Training Fellowships, sponsored by the EU Framework 5 programme. These Fellowships are available for PhD students to come to Warwick for periods of between 3 and 12 months to receive training in techniques for structural characterization of metalbiomacromolecular systems. At warwick, we have unique expertise in using optical spectroscopies (circular dichroism (CD) and linear dichroism (LD) as well as absorbance and fluorescence), scanned probe microscopies (AFM and STM), and high-resolution mass spectrometry (MS) to investigate the effects of both metallo-drugs and aquated metal ions on the structures of nucleic acids and proteins. Training will be available in a choice of the following techniques: Circular dichroism; Linear dichroism; Fluorescence; Absorbance; Atomic force microscopy; High resolution electrochemical scanned probe techniques; Electrospray mass spectrometry; Integration of optical spectroscopy with mass spectrometry; Synthesis of DNA binding drugs and molecules that induce unusual DNA structural effects Fellows will develop a personal training package involving 2-4 of the available options with at least one out of Circular dichroism; Linear dichroism; Fluorescence; Atomic force microscopy; High resolution electrochemical scanned probe techniques; Electrospray mass spectrometry; or Integration of optical spectroscopy with mass spectrometry being included. Fellows will have the choice to either
(i) come with their own research projects already established and with the aim of learning how to use and apply these biophysical techniques for their own research programmes, or alternatively
(ii) they will come for training in the techniques and will become part of one of our own research programmes for the duration of their stay. Applicants must be non-UK nationals pursuing their doctoral studies in a European country other than the UK, and will receive an allowance at the prevailing rate established by the sponsors. The training will be undertaken under the supervision of: Dr. Alison Rodger, Dr. Mike Hannon, Dr. Julie Macpherson, Prof. Patrick Unwin, or Prof. Peter Derrick. Fellows will also interact closely with other members of the research teams. For further details or to arrange a training visit contact the Training Centre Director: Dr. Alison Rodger: email: a.rodger@warwick.ac.uk; tel +44 2476 523234 fax + 44 2476 524112

Dziedzina nauki (EuroSciVoc)
