Retrofitting equipment for efficient use of variable feedstock in metal making processes

Software as a Service tool for Furnace Performance Management

Development of a Software as a Service tool which is connected to the internet and provides a method to deliver performance optimisation tools by accessing them online.

Technical evaluation of the different retrofitting solutions and the overall results of the industrial applications in the different demonstration cases

Evaluation of performance of sensors, equipment, and process monitoring and control tools, as retrofitting solutions and evaluation of the economic gain based on overall results of the industrial application in the different demonstration cases.

MFA applied and validated for steel plant at SID

The Material Flow Analysis of RWTH Task23 for tracking of sources and quality of steel scrap is applied and validated for the steel plant at SID

Material flow anaysis created and data provided for all use cases

Material flow analysis including the definition of the system and system parameters the modelling the data collection and allocation and the evaluation verification and documentation created

Variability in material and energy feedstock assessed for the different use cases

Variability in the feedstock for the steelmaking, aluminium refinery, and lead making assessed.

Report on cross-sectorial transferability of retrofitting solutions

Evaluation how well the developed retrofitting solutions will be transferable to other industrial sectors like other metal making processes and other process industries.

Final exploitation workshops

Exploitation workshops organised and held during the project, dealing with the application of innovative sensor techniques, plant equipment and process control methodologies to industrial processes.

Final dissemination event: joint dissemination workshop with other projects

Organisation of meeting in cooperation with other projects funded in the same SPIRE call in Horizon 2020 calls with similar topics, to allow for information exchange and to discuss on common dissemination strategies and events.

BFI statistical model for steel scrap characterisation and of charge mix optimisation WP4 implemented at the steel plants of SID and AMB

Release of project web-site, press releases including a project leaflet

Project leaflet and web-site with a public part containing key project information and results and a private part reserved for the project partners are released by BFI. The information to be published on the web-site is provided by all partners.

LIBS sensor tested with scrap samples at laboratory and ready for installation

The LIBS sensor is calibrated and validated at laboratory with feeding material steel scrap Al chips Pb shredder provided by the partners and ready for installation at a belt conveyer at ILT
