Experimental proof of principle to validate the downstream processing for separation of the targeted biofuels.
This report summarizes the composition and key physical and chemical properties of next generation biofuels/-blends developed. E.g. for shipping fuels, the fuel assessment includes specificatons for marine distllates and light residue fuels – classes ISO-F-DMA, DMZ, DMB respectively RMA10, RMB30 and RMD80 for the pure component.
Report on heavy feedstock purification for lipids and lignin biofuelsA report on the development of specific pretreatment/purification protocols for the different bio-crude feedstocks, i.e. lignin bio-oil and lipid streams, based on methods such as washing, extraction and ion exchanging. The aim is the successful removal of contaminants such as ash, P, F and As, and to improve the stability and miscibility with traditional feedstocks, targeting to processable feeds and enhanced catalyst stability.
Report on finalized process model of lignin fast pyrolysis with optimized condensation systemA report on the development and verification based on experimental data of a thermodynamic model capable to adequately represent phase equilibria for organosolv lignin pyrolysis oil, which will be applied to optimize the condensation system (temperature, number of stages) and maximize yield of bio-oil that can be used as source of jet and bunker fuel.
Report on evaluation of public acceptanceA report on the evaluation of public acceptance regarding the FLEXI-GREEN-FUELS concept/approach will be compiled towards the end of the project, to be considered in the final exploitation and preliminary business plans.
Environmental Impact - FLEXI-GREEN FUELS Production at Industrial ScaleA documentation of the results of the environmental impace, considering future production at full industrial scale, looking at relevant indicators.
Modelling and Simulation - FLEXI-GREEN FUELS Production at Industrial ScaleA summary report of thermodynamic models, unit operation models, site framework and main assumptions, explanation of the whole integrated biofuels process concept and its unit operations.
Report on chemical composition of MSW streamsA report summarising the chemical composition of MSW streams, based on collecting and analysis of samples as well as statistical methods.
Benchmarking Against Conventional Fuels - FLEXI-GREEN FUELS Production at Industrial ScaleA documentation of the final project results, considering future full industrial scale, next generation biofuels versus conventional fuels, looking at relevant economic and environmental indicators.
Report on catalytic hydrogenation/deoxygenation and alkylation of light lignin bio-oil fractionsA report on the hydrogenation/deoxygenation of model alkoxy-phenols, bio-oil like mixtures, and light fractions of organosolv lignin pyrolysis oil (produced in Task 5.1) towards the respective hydrocarbons, with main outputs the tuning of catalyst activity/selectivity/stability and the optimization of the whole process (i.e. temperature, WHSV, feedstock composition, type of solvent, etc.), using batch and continuous flow high pressure reactors.
New biofuel components/mixtures provided for pilot engine testsA summary report on material transfers, here the transfer of new biofuel components and/or fractions (mixtures) that have been provided to the partners DLR and UROS for pilot engine tests.
Pilot test results representing for bunker-like shipping enginesThis report will summarize test data and evaluated results of the performed marine engine tests. The emission and fuel consumption behaviour of the analysed bunker-like shipping fuels will be recorded and compared against common fossil shipping fuels.
Assessment of aviation fuel approval potential and identification of measures to de-risk fuel approvalPatent and Market Survey
This deliverable will contain the results of the fianl patent and market survey towards the end of the project. These data will be considered while developing the exploitation and proliminary business plan.
Roadmap for exploitation and preliminary business planThis document will describe the road map for exploitation. The road map will be an updated strategy for exploitation of the results generated in the project. It will contain a market assessment for the feedstocks and products of the FLEXI-GREEN FUELS concept and preliminary business plans for the industries involved.
Guideline for next generation biofuels targeted for use in aviation and shipping enginesThis report becomes a guideline that sketches the pathways towards a decarbonisaton of fuels for aviaton and shipping considering multiple aspects like the needs linked to fuel the storagedistribution needs from flightship operators and emission caused by fuel combustion
Report on catalytic conversion of hemicellulose sugars to jet fuel alkanesA report on the integrated process comprising of hydrolysis, dehydration, aldol condensation and hydrogenation/deoxygenation steps of the initial oligomer/monomer sugars existing in the hemicellulose stream of the organosolv biomass pretreatment process, towards the production of C8-C17 n-alkanes. The main aim is to tune process conditions (temperature, time, solvent, etc.) and catalyst properties in order to maximize performance and productivity at the different stages.
A dedicated public workshop will be organised to disseminate and validate the outcomes at the end of the project. It will include presentation of the technologies and a discussion about the relevant exploitation strategy. Participants will be invited from interested local authorities, key scientists, as well as policy makers within Europe, targeting as many Member States as possible, but also including representatives from outsideEurope.
Project website and internal communication toolsCreation of a public project website and a cloud-based file exchange server for all project partners (beneficiaries). Webconference tools will be established and made available for all project patners, too. Internal communication tools (templates of minutes, of reports, of deliverables etc. will be made to be used by all partners.
